Hi - I'm Lacey, founder of the Mustard Seed Ministry. In the summer of 2008 I went to Malawi on a mission trip, hoping to touch others' hearts, only to find my heart touched.
Initially, I was overwhelmed by the sadness, hopelessness, and devastating poverty in the region. I prayed for the residents, that I might be able to
find a way to help them.
In the days that followed, I met a number of amazing people, but one in particular stuck with me: Steve Ngwira. Meeting Steve was truly a blessing.
At the age of 23, Steve's life is focused on earning money to pay for he and his four brothers' educations. Steve is the youth minister of all of the churches that we visited in Malawi. He has great passion and longs to make a change in his community. His heart overflows with the love of Christ. Steve's passion to make a change and his dedication to learning helped him teach himself five languages, calculus, and statistics. He dreams of getting a college education in the United States.
Here I was, blessed with having met Steve, wanting to do something to help Steve with his dream of an American education, but feeling helpless to do anything. I prayed for Steve and for God to tell me what to do. I was moved; God responded.
God inspired me to start Mustard Seed Ministry, a ministry focused first on getting Steve to the U.S. to attend college, then helping other Malawians achieve a similar education.
Current Status
In November 7, 2009, Steve has started his engineering education at Tennessee Tech. He is thankful for the assistance we have been able to give him, getting him to the United States, and the support he has received since he's arrived. Steve has excelled academically, receiving numerous achievements. He has just completed a semester of co-opting with Bosch in Charleston, SC.
To help Steve attain his dream, we still need more funds to assist with housing, books, and tuition. We are making a difference in God's kingdom and helping another of His children follow His calling.
